Dutch Girl Cleaners
Route for Education
Dutch Girl Cleaners, a family owned and operated business in Walnut Creek since 1976, recently committed 5% of its gross sales to the Friends of Civic Arts Education Foundation under a specially conceived "Route for Education" program.
Dutch Girl is the exclusive "all green cleaner" of Walnut Creek. Instead of using the toxic chemicals found in 95% of the industry, owners, Steve and Denise Depper decided to switch to a silicon based product about four years ago. Recognized by the EPA as the cleaning solution of the future, silicon is non-toxic, totally biodegradable and has proven itself in the medical field as an exceptional cleaning agent for many years. Currently under tight control by the manufacturers, the silicon cleaning process is available on a limited basis to only 400 cleaning establishments across the country. The Deppers are proud to have been able to convert their onsite plant to this environmentally safe product. "It protects both our employees and our customers," Steve pointed out during a recent interview, "and your clothes will feel better and last a lot longer because silicon is much more gentle on the fabrics."
The Depper Family’s concern for ecology as well as customer service carries over to their community. "Route for Education", is the brainchild of Dutch Girl Cleaners’ retail manager, Michelle Windsor. “It’s a way of giving back to the community that will touch all the people,” she says. “We spent a lot of time researching to find the right organization and Civic Arts Education meets all our expectations.”
