Supported Communities

The Foundation supports Civic Arts Education and its students as learners of all ages in a wide range of arts activities. CAE is Northern California's largest community arts education program and part of the City of Walnut Creek Cultural Services Department. Each quarter over 130 classes, workshops, music lessons and programs are offered. Annual participation is over 7000 preschoolers through senior adults. There are two campuses, 18 studio classrooms, plus outreach locations and a faculty of over 150 professional artist/instructors. Outreach and grant funded activities have annually engaged over 6,000 students, teachers, seniors and others. Communities supported include the Fine Arts Preschool and Heather and Civic Park Preschools, summer Arts, Adventures, & Academics campers, Youth Theater for various ages, Youth Orchestras, the Dance Academy with dance for all, the Flock of Flutes and Junior Flock, the Jazz Ensemble, “Make Your Mark” teen art program and the volunteer Clay Arts Guild. Clay Arts GuildClay Arts Guild

Members are ceramics students who enjoy use of one of the oldest and best-equipped clay studios in the Bay Area. Clay Arts Guild volunteers learn and share in the joy of ceramics while supporting the studio. Equipment for includes electric and kick wheels and reduction, electric, raku and salt firing kilns. Often these are purchased with Guild support. Opportunities abound to learn to use a slab roller, extruder and equipped damp and glaze rooms. With a focus on learning not production, members develop their vision and skills together while supporting the program as volunteers.

Fine Arts PreschoolPreschools

The Fine Arts Preschool, and the Heather Farm and Civic Park Preschools are developmental early childhood programs using child driven an integrated curriculum. The Fine Arts Preschool emphasizes use of visual art, music movement, and dramatic activities for meaningful, experiential and creative learning. Parent participation is an integral part of the programs. All three preschoolsl provides a safe, nurturing environment that promotes the child’s social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development.

Arts, Adventures & Academics (AAA)

This popular summer program in cooperation with the Walnut Creek School District, provides about 250 K-9 students from throughout the region with hands-on explorations. This arts integrated learning engages them in glass, ceramics, musical theater, cartooming, drumming and other unique experiences. The Foundation provides up to 25 scholarships.

Photo Forum

This group of digital photo enthusiasts meet monthly supported by CAE and the staff. The group donates artwork each year for the Foundation’s auction.
